Brief History

In 1979,two hundred fifty-four Western Kentucky Friendship Force ambassadors left on a charter plane for Cremona, Italy. The plane returned with the same number of Italian Ambassadors. This was the beginning of the Friendship Force here in Kentucky. Since that time, we have been an active club with over fifty exchanges.

In 1983 we changed the name of our club to The Friendship Force Club of Western Kentucky.

Since the formation of a new club in Kentucky-the Friendship Force Club of Louisville, KY-in the early 1990's most of our members have resided in Western Kentucky and Southern Indiana.

Club Highlights

The large number of participants and the unknown destinations of those early exchanges have left unforgettable memories engraved in the minds of the participants. Since then there have been incoming and outgoing exchanges to most parts of the world resulting in lasting friendships and promoting the mission of peace among all peoples of the world. Among those that we hosted were a group of nine from Kazakhstan in 1988 and a group of twenty-five from Turkmenia, USSR, in 1989.

Since 2000 our club has participated in four Open World/Russian Leadership Programs based on the theme of "Federalism". The goal was to provide an opportunity for Russian elected officials, political candidates, and emerging political and civic leaders from all jurisdictional levels to observe the American political system and responsive government at the federal, state, county, and municipal levels.
